Michael Lindsey “Mike” Norton, 60, of Pekin, passed away at 4:07 a.m. Wednesday, May 1, 2013 at UnityPoint Health - Methodist in Peoria.

Born April 2, 1953 in Pekin to Stanley Edward and Mary Lynn (Holiman) Norton, he married Gretchen L. Obenhaus on June 29, 1974 in Princeton.  She survives.

Also surviving are one son, Thomas Norton of Pekin; one daughter, Erin Norton of Pekin; one brother, Daniel (Lisa) Norton of Effingham; and one sister, Amy (Jerry) Jackson of Pekin.

His parents preceded him in death.

While attending Pekin Community High School, Mike worked at Pekin Insurance as a summer employee and continued to do so during his college summer vacations from Illinois State University. 

On July 9, 1973, Mike began full-time employment with Pekin Insurance as a supply clerk in what was then known as the Office Services Department.  He transferred to the Underwriting Department in 1978 and advanced to underwriter trainee.  Since that time, Mike held several positions in the Underwriting Department including commercial lines underwriter, senior commercial lines underwriter, assistant commercial lines underwriting manager, commercial lines underwriting manager, and commercial lines underwriting specialist.  He was promoted to Staff Management status in April 1995.  Mike accepted the position as Bond Manager in March 2002 and currently served in this position, last working Friday.  He also was assistant secretary of Pekin Insurance Company.  He would have celebrated his 40th service anniversary with Pekin Insurance in July.

He was a member of the Pekin Insurance 25-Year Club and Pekin Civic Chorus, where he had sung in 8 shows.  He also was an ambassador and former board member for the United Way of Pekin.

Mike enjoyed traveling, reading, photography.  He was a fan of D.A. Points, St. Louis Cardinals, and the Beatles.

His visitation will be held from 3 to 6 p.m. Friday, May 3, 2013 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin.  There will be no services and cremation will be accorded.
