John Scott Olsen, 59, of Pekin, passed away at 12:35 p.m. Wednesday, April 11, 2012, at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria.

He was born Feb. 21, 1953, in Oakland, Calif., to Earl B. and Bessie Smith-Opper Olsen. He married Roxanne Thousand in 1971 and Elizabeth Rucker in 1991.

Surviving are his children Tina (fiancé Deja McCoy) Olsen of Pekin, John O. Olsen of Macomb, Jake (Victoria Guthrie) Olsen of Pekin, Melissa (Eric) Schlag of Peoria and Michael Olsen of Pekin; three sisters, Mildred Olsen of Morrisonville, Glenna (Dennis) Gray of Bloomington and Cindy Kimble of Washington; one half sister, Carla Opper of Montreal, Mo.; six grandchildren; one great-aunt, Betty Gillis of Pekin; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

John was a Navy veteran, serving aboard the USS Truman.

He last worked as a security guard for the former Security Services Co. He also was owner/operator of American Motorhead magazine as well as running American Motorhead Cruisers and ABBA Ministries.

A celebration of life service will take place at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, April 21, at Richland Southern Baptist Church in East Peoria. The Rev. Gary England will officiate. Cremation will be accorded.
