Thomas H. Ruschmeyer

PEKIN ~ Thomas H. “Tom” Ruschmeyer, 64, of Pekin, passed away Saturday afternoon, May 20, 2017, at his home surrounded by his family.

Born April 28, 1953 in Springfield to John J. and Shirley (Meredith) Ruschmeyer, he married Karen S. Harris on June 5, 1976 in Pekin.  Tom & Karen were just days shy of 41 years of marriage.

Surviving are his wife, Karen; one daughter, Nicole (Kim) Ferizi of Oswego; two sons, Kyle (Joy) Ruschmeyer of Pekin and Tyler (Rachel) Ruschmeyer of North Aurora; three grandchildren, Owen Ruschmeyer, Katelyn Ruschmeyer and Mason Ferizi and one brother, Scott (Penny) Ruschmeyer of Bartonville.  He also leaves his nieces and nephews; a brother-in-law, Keith (Jeanne) Harris of Pekin and a sister-in-law, Beverly (David) Lane of Sarasota, FL.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Frederick Ruschmeyer.

Tom worked as a management employee for Ameren at E.D. Edwards and Duck Creek Power Generating Stations, retiring in 2013 with 32 years of service.  He previously had worked as a carpenter.

He coached youth basketball, baseball and softball for several years for the Pekin Union Mission.  He was a 9-year board member for their condo association at the Lake of the Ozarks.

Tom was devoted to his family.  He loved to fish, boat, and vacation.  There were many memorable vacations with Tracy & Pat Lane and family.  He will be remembered as an honest and compassionate man who always tried to do the right thing.  He had skill and knowledge in many areas and could fix just about anything.

He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Pekin, where he had served on several committees and was a member of the United Methodist Men.

His memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 27, 2017 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin.  The Rev. Judy Doyle will officiate.  Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday evening at the funeral home.
