PEKIN ~ Susan Diane Stone, 52, of Manhattan, New York, passed away at 11:10 p.m. Saturday, March 11, 2006 at Beth Israel Medical Center in Manhattan, New York.  She was formerly of Pekin.

Born October 16, 1953 in Pekin to Lawrence Eugene "Larry" and Willowdean Ferrill Stone, she married John Francis Yeck, III on August 2, 1975 in Pekin.  He survives.

Also surviving are her parents of Pekin; two daughters, Addison Ferrill Stone-Yeck and Katherine Rose Stone-Yeck, both at home; and one sister, Julia A. "Julie" (Brian) Espe of Lakeville, Minnesota.

Susan was a teacher for 31 years, mostly in the public schools of New York City.  She last taught "English as a Second Language" at Bryant High School in Queens, New York until June 2005.

She was a member and leader in the New York City Teachers' Union.  She also was a long-time board member of the Little Missionaries School in Manhattan, New York and was credited with saving it from extinction.

A long-time New York Yankee baseball fan, Susan last attended games in September of the 2005 season.  She loved spending her vacations and many weekends at her Catskill Mountain home at Hancock, New York.  She also enjoyed traveling, reading, and genealogy research.

She was a member of Middle Collegiate Church in Manhattan, New York, where a memorial service was held Tuesday, March 14, 2006.  A local memorial service will be held at a later date. 

Local arrangements have been entrusted to Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel.
